EVENTS

Drawings:

  • 2 tons of lump coal – donated by Nelson’s Sunbeam Coal
  • 2 bicycle helmets (boy/girl) – donated by Central Utah Public Health Dept.

 

Coal Hole Tournament – sponsored by Mom’s Café

  • Friday, 6:00 p.m., Salina City Park
  • $10.00 per team (2 people)
  • Meal provided

Dyna/Trap Shoot – sponsored and hosted by Redmond Minerals

  • 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., Redmond Minerals, North of Redmond
  • Two groups of 20 adults (18 or older)
  • $25 per person; includes shotgun shells, rifle shells, dynamite and clay pigeons
  • 1st, 2ndand 3rd place prizes

ATHS Rocky Mountain Chapter 15th Annual Antique Truck Show

  • 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Art Robinson Transport Museum, Salina

  • SUFCO mining equipment will be displayed at Truck Show venue

 

Chili Cook-Off – sponsored by Western Protectors

  • 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Salina City Park Pavilion
  • Register with Darren Harkins, 435-201-0824, limit of 10 entries
  • Green or red chili; can prepare at home or cook on-site
  • Entries must be at the park by 1:30 p.m.; judging at 2:00 p.m.
  • 1st, 2nd and 3rdplace trophies will be awarded

 

Miss Mary’s Museum

  • Open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Learn about our area history and be sure to visit our coal and truck displays

 

Local Talent

  • 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Performances on stage – Salina City Park
  • Coordinated by Dani Hallows

 

Salina CCC & POW Camp Tours

  • 1:00-4:00 p.m.
  • Dee Olsen, Project Manager, (and possibly the Project Historian) will be available to answer questions

 

Parade

  • 5:00 p.m.
  • Main Street from Robinson Truck Museum to CCC & POW Camp (rodeo grounds)

 

Concert – sponsored by Barney Trucking and Robinson Trucking

  • 6:00 p.m., Salina City Park
  • Clive Romney, singer/songwriter/storyteller and his band Willingly
  • Food vendor still to be determined:
  • Melina’s Mexican Restaurant will be selling food/meals at the festival. (Only food vendor so far other than bake sale and cotton candy.)

Coal Shoveling Contest – sponsored by SUFCO

Coal shoveling contest: from 1:00-3:00 p.m.; must be 16 years old to participate; $10 per team.

  • Registration at event (time and cost still to be determined)
  • 1st place: $500 Jorgenson gift certificate; 2nd place: $250 Barrett’s gift certificate; 3rd place: $100 Salina IFA gift certificate.

  • Tunnel with hard hats and headlamps
  • Mock-up of mine portal (main entrance) for photo ops
  • Coal miners displaying gear and gear to try on
  • Table for coloring pages regarding mining environmental issues
  • Community Pages: “What SUFCO means to me.”
  • Dart board with black balloons.

Local Talent – performing on stage from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (coordinated by Dani Hallows)

Willy Akers will do a live remote radio broadcast from the park (11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) and emcee the events taking place throughout the festival.
